Password protecting website directories

Sometimes you will want to password protect directories so only authenticated users can see content.
First of all you need to log into your plesk server with your favourite web browser using the url below as a template.

https://yourdomainname.com:8443

You will then be presented with your plesk Desktop. Then at the bottom of the resulting screen you will see the domains associated with your account, Select the domain you wish to have a password protected directory within.

Then in the resulting page of the "Hosting" section select the icon labeled "Protected Directories".  
You will see the option at the top of this page labeled "Add New Directory" select this option.

Now you need to decide what parts of the site you want password protected, If you want the entire site password protected you should leave the option as the screenshot below describes.

If you wanted to have the url http://yourdomain.com/admin protected you would mearly need to change the / to /admin then the only part of your site password protected is http://yourdomain.com/admin and anything within.

Now you will be given a few options for the password protection you have created, The options are "Add New User" and "Preferences" you should select add new user and create a username and password.
You now have a password protected directory within your website.
