AVS Client side configuration

— filed under:

This document will show the steps needed to migrate your incoming mail to be filtered by Ipera's AntiSpam/AntiVirus solution

Here is a list of the information Ipera Communications will need to provision your AntiSpam/AntiVirus (AVS) access.

  • Your mail servers IP Address or hostname.
  • The domain names you would like to have filtered
  • How many personal email accounts that need to be filtered (The pricing of AVS is on a number of people in seats, Not how many email addresses you have)

To find your mail servers IP Address or hostname you can use the command nslookup, On a windows computer go to "Start -=> Run -=> cmd"

mx nslookup

So from this example we can see that our Mail server is null.mx.yourdomain.com, If you have mail forwarders this result would be wrong and you will need to find us the correct hostname or IP Address.

Now that you have the information you need you can forward this to Ipera Communications who will provision this configuration for you.

Once you have been notified by Ipera that the AVS system is ready to start filtering your mail you should change your MX records for the domains you want filtered to the following.

MX 10 avs.ipera.net.au
MX 10 avs2.ipera.net.au
MX 10 avs3.ipera.net.au
This will take a minimum few hours to propogate.

Once you are completely configured on Ipera's Communications AVS you must make sure that your mail server has port 25 firewalled and only accepts connections from ipera avs hosts above.
